Make all the jokes you want about the "real Breakfast of Champions" or the "brew of champions," but unless you live in or near St. Paul-Minneapolis, you'll probably never get to try HefeWheaties, the new collaboration between General Mills and Twin Cities craft brewery Fulton. The beer, available only in Minnesota, will hit shelves in tallboy cans on Aug. 26, in limited batches. It contains a lot of malted wheat — like all hefeweizens — but no Wheaties.
If you love hefeweizen and/or Wheaties and don't plan on visiting the Twin Cities in the next few weeks, cross your fingers. "We'll see how people react to it," says Ryan Petz, Fulton's president and co-founder, and a former employee of General Mills. "If it's something everybody loves, we'll obviously consider doing it again in a bigger and more widely distributed way in the future." If you want more information, you can watch the Buzz60 report on HefeWheaties below. Peter Weber
