NBC Los Angeles reports that one of the suspects in a deadly mass shooting that killed at least 14 people earlier Wednesday in San Bernardino, California, is dead after a gun battle with police.

Officers spotted a dark SUV matching the description of the suspected shooters' vehicle at around 3 p.m. in San Bernardino, and a short pursuit ended in gunfire. ABC Los Angeles says the body of another suspect was removed from the SUV at around 4 p.m. A third suspect is believed to be on the run in a residential neighborhood south of the San Bernardino International Airport and north of Interstate 10. Witnesses said they heard "thousands" of rounds of gunfire.
