For the second time in two years, vandals breached security at the Van Nuys Airport in Southern California and caused thousands of dollars worth of damage to corporate jets.
"It's embarrassing," Los Angeles Airport Police Chief Patrick Gannon told the Los Angeles Times. "It's not something we want happening at our airports." Sometime on Sunday night, taggers cut a hole in a fence and gained access to a dark part of the airport, where police say they spray-painted what is believed to be their street names all over the tails and fuselages of three private jets.
Gannon said airport police are working with graffiti experts from the Los Angeles Police Department to try to determine who is behind the tagging. Gannon, who said the incident shows the need for better security measures at the airport, estimates that it will cost a few thousand dollars to clean each plane. In July 2013, taggers spray-painted a Learjet at the same airport with "Flame" and "R.I.P.," causing $100,000 worth of damage.
