Paul Ryan loses the beard
Paul Ryan is clean-shaven again. After months of letting his "hunting beard" grow out, the House Speaker is welcoming the New Year with a shave. Ryan tweeted a photo Tuesday showing off his smooth face, with the caption: "Fresh year. Fresh start. Fresh shave."
Ryan's beard, which he says he grew at deer camp this fall and had initially planned to keep as long as his wife would let him, drew mixed reviews. He was the first House Speaker to have a beard since Frederick Huntington Gillett, who led the House from 1919 to 1925.
