Sean Penn on 'El Chapo' interview: 'I've got nothin' to hide'
Actor Sean Penn has no regrets about his secret Rolling Stone interview with Mexican drug kingpin Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán, he told The Associated Press on Monday.
"I've got nothin' to hide," he wrote in an email, but did not answer the AP's questions about security measures taken to protect his source and whether he thought it was appropriate to clear his story with Guzman before publishing.
Mexican officials have announced they plan to investigate Penn, along with Mexican actress Kate del Castillo and any other actors and producers found to have met with Guzman while he was on the run (he was recaptured in Mexico Friday). On Monday, Mexican newspaper El Universal published photos, which they claim are from a government intelligence file, of Penn and Castillo on their way to meet the drug lord in the jungle.
