Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) announced in a statement on Tuesday she is "proud to endorse Donald J. Trump for president of the United States of America."

In his own statement, Trump said Palin is a "friend, and a high-quality person whom I have great respect for. I am proud to have her support."

Speculation flew earlier Tuesday about John McCain's 2008 running mate potentially endorsing the billionaire business mogul when a charter plane flew from Anchorage to Des Moines and Trump teased a "major announcement." The pair will appear together at a rally in Ames, Iowa, on Tuesday evening.
