Americans really don't like Iran

Americans' view of Iran hasn't changed much since the 1980s, and that's bad news for positive diplomatic relations between the two countries. Current favorable ratings of the Middle Eastern nation sit at just 14 percent, per new Gallup poll results released Wednesday.

Splitting opinion along party lines, independent voters took the most favorable stance toward Iran at 19 percent, closely followed by Democrats at 18 percent. By contrast, only 4 percent of Republicans expressed a favorable perspective.

Partisan differences also appear in regards to the Iran nuclear deal, which is backed by 30 percent of independents, 51 percent of Democrats, and 9 percent of Republicans.
