Republican Sen. Pat Toomey has won reelection in Pennsylvania — sealing a GOP majority for the Senate itself.
With 96 percent of precincts reporting, Toomey has 49 percent of the vote, against Democratic former state environmental protection secretary Katie McGinty with 47 percent. Toomey has been projected as the winner by The Associated Press and Bloomberg News.
This result makes it certain that Republicans will continue to control the Senate with at least 51 seats, following victories by other Republican incumbent senators in tight races that had been targeted by Democrats, such as Wisconsin and North Carolina.
