Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan to challenge Pelosi for House Democratic leader
Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan will challenge Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for the role of House Democratic leader, he announced Thursday in a letter to the House's Democratic caucus.
"While having a position in Democratic leadership has never been my life's ambition, after this election I believe we all need to re-evaluate our roles within the caucus, the Democratic Party, and our country,” Ryan wrote, as reported by The Hill.
Pelosi has been the House's top Democrat for 12 years, including becoming the first woman to serve as speaker of the House in 2007. The Democrats of the lower chamber agreed Tuesday to push their leadership elections until after Thanksgiving, after they had originally been scheduled to take place Thursday; the proceedings will now take place Nov. 30.
