House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.), who was shot Wednesday while practicing with other Republicans for the annual Congressional Baseball Game, remains in critical condition, MedStar Washington Hospital Center said in a statement Thursday evening, adding that Scalise had to undergo another surgery "related to his internal injuries and a broken bone in his leg" and will stay in the hospital for "some time."

Although he is still in critical condition, he has improved over the last 24 hours, the hospital said. Scalise will require additional operations, and his family has requested that MedStar continue to update the public on his status.
