Two people were killed and four others injured Monday afternoon in a shooting at the Clovis-Carver Public Library in Clovis, New Mexico, Clovis City Manager Tom Phelps said.
The shooter was arrested after he "surrendered peacefully," Phelps said, and the injured have been taken to local hospitals. The shooting took place shortly after 4 p.m. local time, and police surrounded the library for more than an hour. Phelps said he does not know the motive, and an investigation is underway.
Witness Vanessa Aguirre told the Albuquerque Journal she was in the library with her son when a man came in and began shooting into the air. "It all happened so fast," she said. "We took off fast. My purse is still in there." Aguirre said she believed the man was using a handgun.
