At least 18 people were killed and about 60 more injured when a double-decker bus flipped on its side in Hong Kong on Saturday. The cause of the crash is unconfirmed, but a local news outlet reported the bus was behind schedule, and the driver was speeding to make up lost time. One passenger said it felt as if the driver were piloting an airplane every time he took a corner.
More than a dozen of the injured were hospitalized, with about 10 in critical condition. The bus lost part of its roof when it tipped over, and some passengers had to be cut free from the wreckage.
Hong Kong's public transportation is typically safe and reliable; this is the deadliest crash in 15 years. A judge will lead an independent investigation into the accident.
