Disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was indicted on Wednesday by a New York grand jury on charges of rape and a criminal sexual act.

In a statement, Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance said this indictment "brings the defendant closer to accountability for the crimes of violence with which he is now charged." Weinstein has been accused of sexual misconduct by dozens of women, but the New York charges are in connection with allegations by two women — one who said Weinstein forced her to perform oral sex in his Manhattan office in 2004, and another who said Weinstein raped her in 2013 at a Manhattan hotel. Weinstein has denied all allegations of nonconsensual sex.
