An undocumented immigrant was arrested after delivering pizza to a Brooklyn military base, Spanish-language paper El Diario first reported Tuesday.
When pizza delivery driver Pablo Villavicencio arrived at Fort Hamilton last Friday, a guard asked for identification, per The Hill. Villavicencio isn't a U.S. citizen and couldn't produce it, so the guard called Immigrations and Customs Enforcement and he was arrested, the driver's wife Sandra Chica told El Diario.
Colombian-born Chica is a U.S. citizen, and the couple have two daughters. She said Villavicencio started the process for residency status in February.
New York is a sanctuary city and doesn't enforce many federal immigration laws, but arrests of immigrants still went up from 2016 to 2017, per The New York Times.
Brooklyn lawmakers representing the Fort Hamilton area say they'll demand answers for Villavicencio's arrest, Kings County Politics reports.
