France beats Uruguay, advances to the World Cup semifinals

France eliminated Uruguay from the World Cup tournament on Friday with a 2-0 victory. Les Bleus' win, secured by goals in the 39th and 60th minutes, means France will advance to the semifinals for the first time since 2006.

France has won the World Cup championship only once, in 1998, and FiveThirtyEight gives the team a 24 percent chance of being the ultimate victor after defeating Uruguay, exceeded only by Brazil's 28 percent. France will play the winner of Friday afternoon's Brazil-Belgium game on July 10.
