Seven law enforcement officers were shot on Wednesday in Florence County, South Carolina, authorities said, and the suspect is in custody.
One of the officers was killed. Florence Police Chief Allen Heidler said deputies from the Florence County Sheriff's Office were executing a search warrant when the suspect opened fire, and officers were shot during an ensuing standoff. Chief Deputy Glen Kirby said the suspect surrendered after speaking to negotiators, and is receiving treatment at a hospital.
