Netflix has reached a major awards milestone.
The streaming platform on Sunday won its first Golden Globe award for a movie, thanks to Roma. The film, which chronicles the life of a maid in Mexico City, was first named Best Foreign Language Film, and it subsequently won Alfonso Cuarón the Best Director prize. Roma was in contention for a third award, Best Screenplay, but lost to Green Book.
Netflix has previously won Golden Globe awards, but only for television; The Crown, House of Cards, and Master of None have won in the past, and The Kominsky Method also won Best Television Series — Musical or Comedy this year, making the platform's great night even better.

Roma is considered one of two main contenders for Best Picture at the Oscars, with the other being A Star Is Born. A Netflix film has never before been nominated in that category let alone won; if Roma is ultimately victorious in February, it will be the first time ever that a movie released by a streaming platform wins Best Picture.
