Cohen hearing begins with GOP lawmaker demanding vote to postpone the whole ordeal
The Michael Cohen hearing got off to a dramatic start on Wednesday when Republican Rep. Mark Meadows (N.C.) interrupted House Oversight Committee Chairman Elijah E. Cummings (D-Md.) to demand the public testimony be postponed. Meadows, a close ally of President Trump, claimed that Cohen had broken committee rules by submitting evidence too late, with The New York Times' Maggie Haberman explaining that "this has been the plan since last night, according to people close to the president."
"It was an intentional effort by [Cohen] and his advisors to once again show his disdain for this body," Meadows announced.
After a quick vote to table Meadow's request to postpone the hearing, which split 24-17 along party lines, Cummings announced that "the American people have a right to hear [Cohen], so we're going to proceed.
