Warner Bros. has spoken: Aquaman is getting a sequel.
The company announced on Wednesday that the follow-up superhero movie will be released on Dec. 16, 2022. While that's a long time to wait for Jason Momoa to grace the big screen again, at least there's a premiere date in sight.
Aquaman garnered $1.1 billion at the global box office, reports Entertainment Weekly, making it the highest-grossing DC Extended Universe film. It was also a domestic success, racking in $335 million and landing it a position right behind Wonder Woman as the second highest-grossing DCEU movie.

It's unclear whether Aquaman's director James Wan will return, but Deadline reported earlier this month that his frequent collaborator David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick — who penned the first script with Will Beall — will write the sequel.
In the meantime, fans can expect to see a plethora of DC movies hit theaters, including Shazam!, Joker, Birds of Prey, and the Wonder Woman 1984 sequel.
