A Punky Brewster reboot starring Soleil Moon Frye is in development

With her pigtails, mismatched shoes, and adorable dog Brandon, Punky Brewster was a hit with kids in the 1980s, and it looks like she's about to make a comeback.
A Punky Brewster sequel is in the works, with Soleil Moon Frye once again playing the title role, Deadline reports. The sitcom focused on the adventures of Punky, a spunky girl in Chicago who was abandoned at a shopping mall and later raised by a widowed photographer named Henry Warnimont. The original show aired on NBC from 1984 to 1986, and then in syndication for an additional two years.
In the reboot, Punky is a single mom to three kids, and she "meets a young girl who reminds her a lot of her younger self," Deadline says. Frye and Punky Brewster creator David W. Duclon will serve as executive producers, and on Twitter Tuesday, an excited Frye announced, "She is back! I am back! #punkypower forever! Yipppeeee."
