Woman hopes her book about rescuing a stray dog will motivate others to do the same

If DD's story can inspire just one person to rescue a dog, it will be a win for Jill McGlaughlin.
During Thanksgiving four years ago, McGlaughlin was visiting Mississippi with her family. During a walk, a stray dog started following her daughter, and stayed close to the family during the remainder of their trip. When it came time to return home to Rockingham County, Virginia, they sadly said goodbye to the dog, dubbed DD. "The further down the road we went, the more we knew that we made the wrong decision, that we really needed her," McGlaughlin told WHSV.
DD was hungry and had clearly been on her own for awhile, and the McGlaughlin family nursed her back to health. "I just wanted to be able to do what I could for that one little animal and hopefully inspire others to do that, too," McGlaughlin said. Her family and friends told her she should write about DD, in order to encourage other people to help animals in need. Over the last two years, whenever McGlaughlin had some free time, she worked on the book, titled DD's Miracle. It's out now, and a portion of proceeds from the book will go to nonprofit animal organizations.
