Hamilton is coming to movie theaters, and we won't have to wait for it much longer.
Disney announced Monday a filmed performance of Hamilton starring the original Broadway cast will be released in movie theaters next year.
In its announcement, the studio described this movie as a "leap forward in the art of 'live capture'" that will combine "the best elements of live theater and film" to create a "cinematic stage performance that is a wholly new way to experience Hamilton." The performance was recorded in 2016 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway. The Wall Street Journal reported back in 2018 on the ongoing bidding war for the rights, which were thought to potentially go for more than $50 million.
