Mank leads the 2021 Oscar nominations

With a little over a month to go until the big night, the nominations for this year's highly unusual Oscars are here.

The other Best Picture nominees were The Father, Judas and the Black Messiah, Minari, Nomadland, Promising Young Woman, Sound of Metal, and The Trial of the Chicago 7. Netflix led with 35 nominations, The New York Times reports.

In the Best Actor category, the nominees were Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal) Chadwick Boseman (Ma Rainey's Black Bottom), Anthony Hopkins (The Father), Gary Oldman (Mank), and Steven Yeun (Minari), while the Best Actress nominees were Viola Davis (Ma Rainey's Black Bottom), Andra Day (The United States vs. Billie Holiday), Vanessa Kirby (Pieces of a Woman), Frances McDormand (Nomadland), and Carey Mulligan (Promising Young Woman).

Meanwhile, the Best Supporting Actor nominees were Sacha Baron Cohen (The Trial of the Chicago 7), Leslie Odom Jr. (One Night in Miami), Daniel Kaluuya (Judas and the Black Messiah), Paul Raci (Sound of Metal), and Lakeith Stanfield (Judas and the Black Messiah), while the Best Supporting Actress nominees were Maria Bakalova (Borat Subsequent Moviefilm), Glenn Close (Hillbilly Elegy), Olivia Colman (The Father), Amanda Seyfried (Mank), and Youn Yuh-jung (Minari).

The Best Director line-up made history, as two women were nominated the first time: Nomadland's Chloé Zhao and Promising Young Woman's Emerald Fennell, who received nods alongside Another Round's Thomas Vinterberg, Mank's David Fincher, and Minari's Lee Isaac Chung.

The 2021 Academy Awards will take place on April 25 in Los Angeles at Union Station and the Dolby Theatre. It hasn't been announced whether there will be a host.
