Castaway survives on just lemon, charcoal and seawater
And other stories from the stranger side of life

A man said he survived on a deserted island for five days by eating two lemons and bits of charcoal and drinking seawater. Brazilian Nelson Nedy was rescued by authorities after a jet skier spotted him waving his T-shirt. Nelson was marooned when he visited an observation point in Grumari beach called Mirador do Roncador, near Rio de Janeiro, and was knocked into the sea by a wave. He washed up onto a deserted island, where he slept in a cave, reported The Metro.
Tasmanian tiger may be brought back to life
Scientists in Australia and the US are launching a multi-million dollar project to bring the Tasmanian tiger back from extinction, reported the BBC. The last known member of the species died in the 1930s but researchers believe the creature can be recreated using stem cells and gene-editing technology. “I now believe that in ten years’ time we could have our first living baby thylacine since they were hunted to extinction close to a century ago,” said Professor Andrew Pask, who is leading the research at the University of Melbourne.
Men share vasectomy stories on TikTok
Men in the US are using social media to share their experiences of having a vasectomy. A growing number of young men in America are having vasectomies, reported The Times, including Mike Pridgen, a comedian from New Jersey, who filmed his entire surgery, including the moment a doctor made the “little pinch”. A group of ten urologists told The New York Times that they had seen a rise in bookings for vasectomies after the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade, which guaranteed a woman the constitutional right to an abortion.
