Transfer news and rumours: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Olivier Giroud and Riyad Mahrez
A round-up of the latest transfer gossip from the world’s football media
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: Dortmund to Arsenal
Goodness knows Arsenal fans need some good news right now after last night’s dire 3-1 defeat at Swansea and they will get it today with the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gabon striker arrived in London yesterday to complete a deal that will net Borussia Dortmund £55.5m. According to the International Business Times, Arsene Wenger confirmed the deal in an interview with Arsenal’s official website last night, which was prematurely uploaded to the site. “Yes it’s good news,” said Wenger, when asked about Aubameyang. “We need people who can give us offensive power. At the moment, we are not efficient enough going forward and hopefully I’m convinced he will bring us that. He has a big challenge in front of him and he wants to do well in the Premier League.”
Olivier Giroud: Arsenal to Chelsea

There was a fleeting appearance by Olivier Giroud at Swansea as the Arsenal striker came off the bench on 75 minutes in a vain attempt to grab a goal or two for the Gunners. And that is likely to be the last Arsenal fans see of their French frontman as he is expected to seal an £18m move to Chelsea today. Sky Sports carries the post-match comments of Arsene Wenger, who, when asked if Giroud was on the brink of joining the Blues, replied: “It’s a possibility but all that will be decided tomorrow morning. We will inform you once that is more definite.”
Riyad Mahrez: Leicester to Arsenal or Manchester City
The Algerian ace has been linked with the Emirates before, but the Daily Star believes that this time it’s for real after Mahrez handed in a transfer request to the Foxes' management. It’s even claimed he’s bought “a property in London in preparation of a transfer to the Gunners”, despite the fact that Sky Sports report that Manchester City are willing to hand over £50m for his services as they look to replace the injured Leroy Sane. Leicester have allegedly rejected the Sky Blues' bid but some reports suggest City are willing to raise it to £60m.
Milan Skriniar: Inter Milan to Manchester United or City
According to The Sun, the Italian side have knocked back a bid of £57m for their Slovakian stopper. Skriniar, who has played every single minute for Inter Milan this season, is apparently being tailed by both the Manchester clubs, as well as Barcelona and Real Madrid. The defender’s agent, Karol Csonto, said a move today is unlikely but confirmed that both City and United are “interested”, adding that “one of these clubs has made a £57m bid for him”. Inter politely declined the offer but if they don’t cave in on deadline day then Skriniar is expected to leave in the summer.
