Good Day, Bad Day

Moving south, Selling authenticity

GOOD DAY FOR: Moving south, as the average U.S. heating bill will rise 10 percent this year, to $977, the Energy Information Administration said. Hardest hit this winter will be the 7 percent of Americans who heat their home with oil, which is projected to spike 22 percent. (CNNMoney.com)

BAD DAY FOR: Selling authenticity, as U.S. fast-food chain Taco Bell is reentering the Mexican market for the first time in 15 years. To set itself apart from actual Mexican taquerias, Taco Bell will sell French fries and rename some menu items. But it’s still a hard sell for some Mexicans. “It’s like bringing ice to the Arctic,” groused pop-culture historian Carlos Monsivais. (AP in USA Today)
