2 police officers shot in Ferguson expected to survive

Early Thursday, St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said that the two officers shot in front of the Ferguson police headquarters earlier in the night were expected to recover from their wounds. One officer, 45, was shot in the shoulder and the other, 32, was shot in the face, Belmar said, according to the Los Angeles Times. "I don't know who did the shooting, to be honest with you right now," he added. "But somehow they were embedded in that group of folks" protesting.

That doesn't match the account from eyewitnesses, including New York Times correspondent John Eligon, who said on Twitter that the "shots were from a distance," up a hill across from the police station. Now, the hunt for the shooter is on:
