Israel and Palestine each agreed Monday to investigate possible war crimes committed in 2014 during a summer of violence on the Gaza Strip, Reuters reports. The agreement follows a United Nations report earlier last week detailing alleged crimes on each side: that Palestinian militant rocket attacks targeted civilians and Israel used "disproportionate" force.

"A substantial number of cases have been reviewed, investigated, and closed," Israeli ambassador Eviatar Manor said in Geneva. "There are about 100 cases which are still open. Alleged war crimes are very, very serious crimes."
