John McCain says it's 'worth looking into' Ted Cruz's eligibility to run for president
John McCain and Ted Cruz have never been friends — McCain once called his fellow senator a "wacko bird" — and that's been made clear through their latest squabble.
On Wednesday, the Arizona senator told KFYI that it's "worth looking into" whether Canadian-born Cruz is eligible to run for president. "I think there is a question," he said. "I'm not a constitutional scholar on that…but I don't think it's illegitimate to look into it."
Cruz was quick to fire back, telling reporters on Thursday he knew why McCain brought up the question of his citizenship. "Everybody knows John McCain is going to endorse Marco Rubio," he said. "Their foreign policies are almost identical. Their immigration policies are identical. So it's no surprise that people who are supporting other candidates in this race are going to jump on the silly attacks that occur as we get closer and closer to the election." McCain has not endorsed any of the Republican presidential candidates yet.
