Bernie Sanders will be laying off "hundreds" of his campaign staffers across the country to focus almost entirely on the delegate-rich state of California going forward, the Vermont senator said in an interview Wednesday. The decision comes the day after Sanders lost four of five primary states in the Northeast, dropping him even further back from frontrunner Hillary Clinton.

"If we win this, every one of those great people who have helped us get this far, they will be rehired. But right now, we have to use all of the resources we have and focus them on the remaining states," Sanders said.
