Speaking about Republican Senator John McCain, who was taken prisoner for nearly six years during the Vietnam War, Trump said: "He's not a war hero. I like people that weren't captured." His remarks sparked a furious response from veterans' groups across the US. "[His] asinine comments are an insult to everyone who has ever worn the uniform – and to all Americans," Paul Rieckhoff, of the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America group, wrote in the New York Daily News.
