While designing this collection, I was channelling the idea of glamour at Jimmy Choo: dressing up, being seen, being noticed. Making a statement – the good kind of statement!
Formalwear is one angle that I touched on, and the latest collection is designed with that in mind. I wanted it to be rich and luxurious, but at the same time urban. My inspiration came from the regal, elaborate concept of royalty. I then digested all of that and an idea evolved for a tech-focused boot.
First and foremost, the Baldwyn is a very rugged trekking boot but it was inspired by a trainer. Secondly, if you look at the sole, it is refined. The embossed ‘lizard leather’ that makes up the upper element of the design is merged with this sole, which itself has been fused from rubber and another type of PU leather. We embossed leather to create a lizard-skin textured pattern, which is very important – it conveys a creative attitude. But visually, this boot is also an understated piece of footwear. It shows how tradition can combine successfully with technology and showmanship.
