The Week’s guide to what’s worth watching

The best programs on TV this week

Revolution

After a four-month hiatus, Revolution will again be televised—as the series returns for the second half of its first season. The J.J. Abrams–produced show, which imagines a dystopian near future without electricity, hasn’t had the ratings of its progenitors Lost and Alias, but not for any lack of cliff-hanger endings. Monday, March 25, at 10 p.m., NBC

American Masters: Philip Roth—Unmasked

He’s sworn off ever writing again, but the man often called America’s greatest living novelist still has plenty to say. This feature-length documentary portrait, released as Roth celebrates his 80th birthday, was built from interviews in which Roth, across 10 days last year, opened up about his personal life, his writing process, and his most memorable characters. Friends—including Mia Farrow and novelists Jonathan Franzen and Nicole Krauss—offer their perspectives. Friday, March 29, at 9 p.m., PBS; check local listings

Orphan Black

Clones’ lives can be so complicated. This promising new supernatural thriller series follows a street-smart young woman who finds herself at the center of a dark mystery when she assumes the identity of a suicide who looked just like her. Tatiana Maslany stars as orphan Sarah Black—and as the multiple look-alikes Sarah eventually learns about. Saturday, March 30, at 9 p.m., BBC America

Masterpiece: Mr. Selfridge

Harry Gordon Selfridge challenged mores in Edwardian London when he opened the city’s first American-style department store in 1909. Jeremy Piven of Entourage stars as the Chicago retailer in a soapy new series that makes much of Selfridge’s playboy antics and his showman’s talent for turning shopping into an exercise in fantasy fulfillment. Sunday, March 31, at 9 p.m., PBS; check local listings
