1. ARIZONA GOVERNOR DECLARES VICTORY
With the Supreme Court having upheld the controversial "show me your papers" provision of Arizona's immigration law, Gov. Jan Brewer (R) says law enforcement officials will begin enforcing the law immediately. "We will move forward instructing law enforcement to begin practicing what the United States Supreme Court has upheld," Brewer told reporters at a Monday press conference. "Today is a day when the key components of our efforts to protect the citizens of Arizona — to take up the fight against illegal immigration in a balanced and constitutional way — has unanimously been vindicated by the highest court in the land." The Supreme Court did strike down three important provisions of the law, including one that made it a crime for some immigrants to be without their registration papers. [Los Angeles Times]

2. TURKEY ISSUES STRONG WARNING TO SYRIA
After NATO lent its support by condeming Syria "in the strongest terms" for shooting down a Turkish fighter jet last week, Turkey issued a "blunt warning" to Syria not to approach its border. "Every military element that approaches the Turkish border from Syria in a manner that constitutes a security risk or danger would be considered as a threat and would be treated as a military target," Turkish Prime Minister Recip Tayyip Erdogan said in a speech to Arab diplomats and lawmakers Tuesday. While Turkey has conceded that the plane briefly strayed into Syrian airspace, it says it was over international waters when it was attacked. [New York Times]

3. SANDBERG JOINS FACEBOOK BOARD
On Monday, Facebook Inc. tapped Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg to join its board. Sandberg will be the first woman to serve on the tech giant's board. It is currently made up of seven men, and even with Sandberg's promotion, the lack of diversity is an issue for a company that reaches such a broad audience. [Reuters]

4. MURDOCH CONSIDERS DIVIDING NEWS CORP.
Sources say News Corp. is considering splitting itself into two parts: The company's newspaper business would make up one arm, while the movie studio and its TV networks — the company's biggest moneymakers — would make up another. The Murdoch family would reportedly control both companies if the split happens. [New York Times]

5. MICROSOFT BUYS YAMMER FOR $1.2B
Microsoft is paying $1.2 billion to acquire Yammer, an internet startup whose focus is creating small, private social networks for employees within the same company to stay up on what their co-workers are doing. Microsoft is buying the company with the aim of bringing Facebook-esque sharing capabilities to its popular business software. [Associated Press, Reuters]

6. SPAIN'S BORROWING COSTS NEARLY TRIPLE
A day after Spain formally requested aid for its banks from its fellow eurozone members, the country's short-term debt costs nearly tripled. In a pair of short-term auctions Tuesday, the Treasury sold 3.1 billion euros ($3.9 billion) in two maturities, paying a 2.363 percent yield on a 3-month bill, up from .846 percent in May. The yield on a 6-month bill also rose steeply, from 1.7 percent in May to 3.24 percent. [Associated Press]

7. PHELPS COMES IN SECOND, GETS OLYMPIC SLOT
In his first race at the U.S. Olympic trials in Omaha, Neb., swimmer Michael Phelps finished second in the men's 400 individual medley, earning an Olympic birth but losing to key rival Ryan Lochte in the event for the first time. Phelps has won 14 Olympic gold medals, and London will be his fourth and, according to him, last Olympics. Phelps and Lochte will face off in two other races in these trials. [USA Today]

8. ORBITZ GIVES MAC USERS DIFFERENT RESULTS
After finding that Apple computer users will pay as much as 30 percent more for hotels than Windows users, travel site Orbitz is experimenting with showing them different search results. The move underscores how retailers are increasingly using analytics to predict consumer behavior. [Wall Street Journal]

9. TROPICAL STORM DEBBY DRENCHES FLORIDA
Tropical Storm Debby could spill another 4 to 8 inches of rain on northern Florida in the next 48 hours and produce isolated tornadoes, according to the National Hurricane Center. The storm has already dumped as much as 5 inches rain per hour in the area and has been blamed for one death. Early on Tuesday, the storm was centered 85 miles west of Cedar Key, Fla., and had sustained winds of 45 mph. [CNN]

10. UGGIE ADDS PAW PRINTS TO GRAUMAN'S
Uggie, the 10-year-old Jack Russell Terrier who was lauded for his work in Best Picture winner The Artist, added his paw prints to the cement outside of Grauman's Chinese Theatre on Monday. Uggie joins nearly 200 Hollywood notables, including Marilyn Monroe and Clark Gable, who have left their impression at the famous site. The ceremony was billed as a retirement party for the dog, who suffers from a neurological disorder. [Guardian]
