Charity of the week: Futures Without Violence
Futures Without Violence works to end violence against women and children, both in the U.S. and abroad.
One in five American women has been a victim of sexual assault in her lifetime, and one in four has experienced domestic violence, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. For more than 30 years, the organization Futures Without Violence (futureswithoutviolence.org), formerly known as the Family Violence Prevention Fund, has worked to end violence against women and children, both in the U.S. and abroad. It creates innovative educational programs and public campaigns to help prevent violence on college campuses and teach young men the importance of respecting women. It also trains health-care providers to better recognize victims of abuse and intervene on their behalf.
Each charity we feature has earned a four-star overall rating from Charity Navigator, which ranks not-for-profit organizations on the strength of their finances, their control of administrative and fund-raising expenses, and the transparency of their operations. Four stars is the group’s highest ranking.
