Hotel of the week: Mena House, Cairo
Mena House, built in the 1860s as a hunting lodge for Egypt’s king, is set next to the Giza pyramids.
Historic Mena House is “one of those grande dame hotels” where you’re always assured luxe service, said Chris Gray Faust in USAToday.com. “Located within spitting distance of the Giza pyramids (which you can see from many of the rooms),” it’s a place that can be counted on for a rejuvenating stay “no matter what condition the rest of the country is in.” Built in the 1860s as a hunting lodge for Egypt’s king, it’s now operated by the highly regarded Oberoi Group. Along with a “spectacular” pool, it features the only golf course directly adjacent to one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.
