President Obama named Cecilia Muñoz director of the Domestic Policy Council this week, in a move that elevates his top adviser on immigration policy and Hispanic outreach to a senior staff position. Muñoz’s promotion was seen as a political move by critics, since the White House will be seeking strong support from the Latino community in the November elections. In her new role, Muñoz will oversee policymaking on a range of domestic issues, but she will continue to coordinate immigration policy for the president. “Ultimately, my career is about making sure the doors are open in this country for everybody,” said Muñoz, 49, the daughter of Bolivian immigrants.
