Mexico City
Most zombies ever: Mexico City is claiming the world record for the biggest zombie walk after nearly 10,000 zombies paraded through the streets this week. Clad in white makeup and rags, some bearing chain saws, participants staggered and moaned through the center of the capital. Organizer Pablo Guisa said the fifth annual Mexico City event was meant to celebrate diversity and human rights as well as collect donations for a local food bank. The event drew 9,860 registered marchers, smashing the official record of 4,093 zombies, set last year in Asbury Park, N.J.

U.S. officer charged: A Chilean judge has charged a former U.S. military officer with homicide for the 1973 killing of an American journalist, a crime that was the focus of the 1982 film Missing. Former U.S. Navy Capt. Ray E. Davis, commander of the U.S. military mission in Chile at the time, is accused of complicity in the killings of journalist Charles Horman and another American, student Frank Teruggi. The two were executed in the custody of Chilean state security agents just a few days after the military coup that brought dictator Augusto Pinochet to power. Judge Jorge Zepeda said Davis chose not to stop the executions and is also suspected of giving Pinochet officials a list of “subversive” U.S. citizens in Chile. Chile is seeking Davis’s extradition, but his whereabouts are unknown.
