Charity of the week: National Alliance to End Homelessness

The organization works with communities across the country to find homeless people shelter and services.

By the last official count, nearly 700,000 people are homeless on any given night in the U.S. The National Alliance to End Homelessness (endhomelessness.org) aims to reduce that figure by working with communities across the country to find homeless people shelter and services. The organization helps find temporary housing for the newly homeless as soon as possible, and a broader array of aid for the chronically homeless. Collecting better data on the American homeless population—especially tracking increases in veteran and youth homelessness—is one of the Alliance’s top priorities, so it can keep lawmakers and the public better informed about how best to address the problem.

Each charity we feature has earned a four-star overall rating from Charity Navigator, which ranks not-for-profit organizations on the strength of their finances, their control of administrative and fund-raising expenses, and the transparency of their operations. Four stars is the group’s highest ranking.
