‘Go pregnant lady!’
A 27-year-old woman has amazed doctors and fellow athletes by completing a full marathon while 39 weeks pregnant, then giving birth to a healthy baby girl a few hours later. Amber Miller was given the all clear by doctors to run part of the marathon; she walked the rest of the way, drinking plenty of fluids and eating a lot. “Lots of people were cheering me on: ‘Go pregnant lady!’” she said. Miller felt her first contractions in the second half of the race, and was rushed to the hospital minutes after crossing the finish line, with barely enough time to untie her sneakers.

A Michigan girl crowned homecoming queen at halftime of a high school football game wowed her fellow students not by wearing a beautiful gown, but by kicking the team’s winning field goal in the second half. Brianna Amat, the first girl to play varsity football for Pinckney Community High School, received her tiara in full uniform before sealing the team’s victory by booting a 31-yard field goal in the third quarter. Her teammates have since nicknamed her the Kicking Queen.
Tyler Southern's can-do spirit
A U.S. Marine who lost three limbs while serving in Afghanistan has not let his injuries dampen his can-do spirit. Tyler Southern, 22, walked his bride down the aisle in Jacksonville, Fla., on his prosthetic legs this summer, and has decided to stay in the Marine Corps as a public affairs officer. “It’s hard to get me off the happy horse,” said Southern, whose legs and right arm were blown off by an improvised explosive device in May 2010. Even with another 18 months of physical therapy to go, he said, “I’ve got the world at my prosthetic feet.”
