The Runaways “captures, like no other movie, the feeling of being a teenager in the 1970s,” said the San Francisco Chronicle. While the film isn’t a complete account of “the seminal all-girl rock band” of the title, Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning are “spot-on” as Joan Jett and Cherie Currie.

The Most Dangerous Man in America
(First Run, $27.95)
This documentary about how military analyst Daniel Ellsberg leaked a secret military study of the Vietnam War plays like a “political thriller,” said The Washington Post. The film “recounts a pivotal chapter in American history,” made all the more compelling by Ellsberg’s personal story and dedication to publicizing the truth.
Close-Up
(Criterion, $39.95)
Abbas Kiarostami’s Close-Up is a “movie of multiple ironies,” but it also has great heart, said the Ventura County, Calif., Star. Using “bare-bones” re-creations and period footage, the Iranian director tells the true story of Hossein Sabzian, who, in 1989, was put on trial for posing as filmmaker Mohsen Makhmalbaf.
