The clash between a Pennsylvania woman's determination to be 'green' and her neighbors' aversion to the sight of her clothesline

One woman's determination to go green has stirred up a controversy in Skippack Township, Pa. Patty Pozeynot put up a clothesline to dry her laundry the old-fashioned way, instead of using a power-guzzling electric machine. The trouble is, the Hunter Ridge neighborhood association has a rule against "unsightly" outdoor clotheslines, and it fined her $100, which she'll have to pay unless she can get 38 of the 55 homeowners in the neighborhood to sign a petition supporting her. Pozeynot says she just wants to do what's right for the environment. But neighbor Karen Kelly says, "if everybody did it, I don't think it would look appealing."
