A Florida police deputy, fired for drunken misconduct, is suing for damages on the grounds that alcoholism is a recognized handicap. Sgt. Clinton Knowles was fired in 2008 after drunkenly groping two women. But Knowles claims in his lawsuit that the Sarasota Sheriff’s Office had a duty under the Americans with Disabilities Act to “accommodate the perceived and/or actual alcoholism of the Plaintiff” and enroll him in a rehab program.
