GOOD DAY FOR: A geek bidding war, as Hollywood auction house Profiles in History is preparing to auction off the very first Apple Macintosh Plus ever made, which just happens to have been owned by “Star Trek” creator Gene Roddenberry. The aging 1986 computer has 1 MB of RAM and retailed for $2,600, although it was presented as gift to Roddenberry. The auction house only expects to get $800-$1,200 for the machine. (Reuters)
BAD DAY FOR: Feeling the good news, after the Federal Reserve said that U.S. households are $2 trillion wealthier than they were three months ago, the first rise in net worth since 2007. Our new net worth, $53.1 trillion, is still 19 percent lower than the $6.3 trillion we had in 2007, and unemployment is at a 26-year high. Much of the rise in the last quarter was due to the rally in stocks and the modest rise in home prices. (CNNMoney.com)
