Savita Bhabhi: The death of India's cartoon porn star

What happened to a cartoon character that helped people explore sexuality despite strict anti-porn laws

"There's some nastiness brewing in India," said Lisa Gutierrez in The Kansas City Star. The Indian government is reportedly banning domestic access to the website of the country's first animated porn star, Savita Bhabhi. "The millions of people who visit the steamy seductress' website are not happy," because the character found a huge following in a country where laws against pornorgraphy are strictly enforced.

That may be why the media—and fans—made such a big deal about Savita Bhabi, said Kanika Parab in The Huffington Post. But all the attention and the website's skyrocketing traffic apparently helped seal the cartoon porn star's demise. Now fans are pinning their hopes to headlines in Indian national dailies, pleading "Don't Let Savita Die" and "Assassination of Savita."

Savita Bhabhi may be doomed, said The Times of India, but she won't be soon forgotten. "In her brief life and sudden death, Savita Bhabhi did much to reveal the nature of India’s troubled relationship with sex." At least the "frisky Indian housewife" had time to make her point, and expose the hypocrisy of India's sexual squeamishness and macho hypocrisy.
