GOOD DAY FOR: Natural gas, as two utility companies in Manchester, England, have planned a green-energy project that will recycle human solid waste into gas for the local energy grid. The human feces will be broken down by microbes to make a biogas that will be mixed with propane to power about 5,000 homes. Sewage-derived energy, its backers point out, is in endless supply and very renewable. (Reuters)
BAD DAY FOR: Financial ups and downs, after Six Flags, the world’s top regional theme park operator, declared bankruptcy. The Chapter 11 reorganization will free the company of $1.8 billion in debt and $300 million in preferred stock obligations. Six Flags plans to continue operations uninterrupted during the bankruptcy. New York–based Six Flags has 20 parks in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. (Reuters)
