Facebook foreclosure, Naked for wages

Good day for anti-social networking, Bad day for a model workforce

GOOD DAY FOR: Anti-social networking, after an Australian court allowed a mortgage lender to use Facebook to serve legal documents informing a couple that they’d lost their home. Electronic privacy advocates criticized the ruling. But Facebook was more sanguine. “We’re pleased to see the Australian court validate Facebook as a reliable, secure and private medium for communication,” said Facebook spokesman Barry Schnitt. BAD DAY FOR: A model workforce, after a handful of Parisian artists’ models disrobed in the cold outside the city’s cultural affairs office to protest a recent ban on tips and their generally low pay. The models, who work for the city, say the average wage of $12 an hour to pose before students and professional artists is too low and that the ban on gratuities was the final straw. “We’re performers who play non-speaking roles,” said model Carole Kras.
