Good Day, Bad Day
Better translators, money laundering
GOOD DAY FOR: Better translators, after the Food and Drug Administration said that in trying to assess the safety of a key ingredient of the blood thinner heparin, it had inspected the wrong Chinese factory because of a mix-up in similar sounding names. The drug, made by Baxter International, was recalled after being tied to more than 350 illnesses and four deaths. (The Washington Post, free registration)
BAD DAY FOR: Money laundering, after a Colorado couple bought cookies from a Girl Scout troop using a fake $100 bill. When the girls asked about the bill’s strange appearance, the couple said it had been washed. (AP in USA Today)
