Caracas, Venezuela
American anti-war protester Cindy Sheehan stood with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez this week as the socialist leader called for activists everywhere to help bring down “the U.S. empire.” Sheehan, who started stumping against the war in Iraq after her son Casey was killed there in 2004, said she was considering running for the U.S. Senate in California, and that Chavez had encouraged her. “He said, why don’t I run for president,” she related. “I just laughed.” Chavez said Sheehan was planning to protest near President Bush’s Texas ranch in April, as she did last year. “Maybe I’ll put up my tent also,” Chavez said.
