Prisoners wont eat
The week's news at a glance.
Guantánamo Bay, Cuba
At least 128 terror suspects are staging a hunger strike at the Guantánamo Bay prison in Cuba, and 18 have gone without food for so long that the U.S. military is force-feeding them through tubes. Medics are regularly checking the vital signs of everyone participating in the strike. Some of the men, most of whom were captured during the war in Afghanistan, have not eaten for a month. Others have skipped meals for a week or less. “People are desperate,” said Clive Stafford-Smith, a lawyer for one of the 520 prisoners at Guantánamo. “They have been there three years.”
